An Area Offering Some of the Best Cattle in Canada

Natives of Scotland, Bill & Wendy Troup and their family immigrated to Canada in 2004 after dispersing their 100-cow milking herd. Once settled in Canada, the Troups quickly re-established themselves as Holstein breeders, continuing their love of working with elite cattle.

In just eight years the Troups and their show cattle have managed to win four Premier Breeder and three Premier Exhibitor awards at Lindsay Exhibition, plus a total of nine All-Canadian and All-Ontario nominations in 2011 alone. Vale-O-Skene herd members have also earned a number of Superior Lactation production awards and Star Brood cow awards.

The Troup family describes their ideal cow as being a high type, show winner also possessing longevity and production capabilities. Herd members such as show winners Tiny Acres Dundee Kathleen (VG-89) and Kallanda Factor Heater Two (Ex-92-2E-2*) exemplify their present herd, and they’ve recently purchased granddaughters of All-Canadian and All-American show winners Harvue Roy Frosty (Ex-97-2E-USA) and Eastside Lewisdale Gold Missy (Ex-95) to enhance their breeding program.

Embryos from Vale-O-Skene have been sold to Argentina and Australia, and they regularly have embryos available for export markets. The Troups became involved in the Livestock Export Alliance with the goal of furthering their chances of selling high pedigreed cattle and embryos to a worldwide market. The family has already welcomed visitors and tours to their farm from Spain, the U.K., Ireland, the United States and Germany.

When asked what their region of Ontario has to offer potential customers seeking livestock and embryos for export, the Troups proudly state “High profiled/pedigreed cattle (some of the best in Canada!).”
