John & Alice DeVries at Willdina Holsteins
John and Alice DeVries have a straightforward approach to breeding cows with the Willdina prefix. They aim for production, type, and cows that last. “We like a cow that goes Excellent, and breeds on.”

Success of their breeding philosophy can be measured in many ways, including the fact that the DeVries earned a Master Breeder award in 2003, and they’ve had six All-Canadian nominees in the past six years.

From an international standpoint, they’ve exported cattle to the USA, UK, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Holland, Mexico, Argentina, and Switzerland. Among the success stories of these cattle are a bull in A.I. and several Excellents in the UK.

The DeVries are eager to regain past markets and establish new export avenues for their live cattle and embryos. They recently joined the Leading Livestock Genetics group with a goal of sharing their genetics for added income. “We want to keep exporting to make breeding valuable.”

Visitors are always appreciated at this farm. The DeVries frequently welcome international guests during Royal Winter Fair week, as well as Semex tours throughout the year. Close proximity to Toronto and easy accessibility from Highway 401 (as well as high quality cattle to see from the Lila Z, Barbie, Teekah and Karen families) is always a drawing card for visitors to Willdina.
